BMW is giving its 4 Series lineup a mid-cycle update, and the latest spy photos show that the changes will also extend to the electric i4 variant. The upcoming BMW i4 is spotted wearing heavy camouflage on its front and rear fascias, but some subtle styling tweaks are evident from the exposed areas.
The most noticeable updates are in the headlight and taillight designs, showcasing new internal graphics. While the front and rear bumpers appear similar to the current model, there could be some minor revisions hidden under the covers. The side of the car reveals its trim level, being the i4 M50. Although BMW has concealed the M badge on the front fenders, the exposed vents behind the wheels hint at the sporty characteristics of the hotter variant.
While the spy photos do not provide a clear view of the cabin, it is unlikely that significant design changes are lurking inside. A portion of the dual-screen display can be seen, appearing similar to the current i4 on sale. However, BMW might update the software or add new features through over-the-air updates, benefitting existing i4 owners.
Currently, the i4 M50 boasts a powerful setup with two electric motors generating a combined 536 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 130 mph. Whether BMW will make any changes to the electric powertrain components remains uncertain. However, the rest of the i4 lineup, including the standard model, could receive enhancements to increase range or power output.
The refreshed styling of the i4 aligns with BMW’s efforts to improve the entire 4 Series lineup. Besides the electric i4, spy photographers have also spotted the updated coupe, convertible, and M4 variants undergoing testing. These models will feature new lights and other subtle styling updates. While the exterior and design updates are prominent, it is not expected that BMW will make significant changes to the rest of the model’s powertrain portfolio.
As for the release date, BMW has already announced the 2024 model year and several updates, suggesting that the refreshed i4 and 4 Series will likely debut next year and hit dealerships in 2025. BMW enthusiasts and electric vehicle enthusiasts alike can look forward to a stylish and powerful i4 with enhanced features and design elements, continuing BMW’s commitment to innovation in the electric vehicle segment.
